And the winner is....

10/22/08 I quoted, "Alexander more than deserves this award. It was love at first collection for me and him. His androgyny chic, with a edgy rock n roll style is flying off the racks. The best of luck to him."

And sure enough the winner of the CFDA fashion fund award went to him last night. $200,000 plus a year of mentoring will be given to him.

The runner-ups: Vena Cava and Albertus Swanepoel of Albertus Quartus, receiving $50,000.

Mini-profile on Alexander Wang:

Born in San Francisco, California Alexander moved to New York City to attend Parsons School of Design at the age of 18. He has a parade of impressive internships: Derek Lam, Marc Jacobs, Vogue, and Teen Vogue. By 2007, Alexander launched his own women's ready-to-wear collection that was an instant hit and was sold in over 150 boutiques nationwide.

This 24 year old now lives in the lower east side, gaining inspiration from cool-chic girls such as Erin Wasson (who styled some of his shows) and Alice Dellal. His clean, classic and luxurious silhouettes that is mixed with urban streets is the epitome of true fashion. "A tee shirt and jeans can be just as sexy and stylish as an evening gown." Alexander claims. The contrast of these two words (high fashion with street) is what modern fashion is all about today.
